More Crafty Stuff

So I recently completed a new art project that is now hanging on my wall. It began months ago so it was a bit of a long process. Basically I started with a bunch of toilet paper rolls and ended up with a huge blue hexagon on my wall. These pictures document the process:

I used superglue to hold them all together and then I found some spray paint in our basement. It would be nice if it was a bit bigger but each time I add more it gets exponentially bigger and uses a lot of toilet paper rolls. I cut them a bit thick so I could only get 4 slices per roll.

Also I got to go to the Nats, Cards game on Tuesday which was awesome! So here are a couple of pictures from that:

Busy Saturday

This Saturday I was able to spend the day doing all kinds of DC things with Corey and other friends. Corey and I started by walking from his place up to the tidal basin and all the way around. I had not yet had an opportunity to check out all the pretty blossoms and they were already past their peak so it was either then or I wouldn't have seen them at all I'm afraid. We also saw that they have started work on the Washington Monument.

After we finished our walk around the Tidal Basin we went back to his place for lunch. We were joined by a couple of his coworkers and a friend of Corey's from Calvin. We all grabbed a bite to eat and then we walked over to National's Stadium for a game. They were playing the Braves and even though they lost it was a lot of fun to see the game.

Corey and I ended the day at a concert at Black Cat on U street with Cara and Benjamin. The band was Cloud Cult. It is one of Corey's all time favorite groups (from Minnesota) and this was his first time seeing them. During the concert there were a couple of painters on stage and they painted while the band played. At the end of the concert they were auctioned off. I am not sure what the final price was but when we saw the one was at $1100 and the other was around $500. The band is not for profit so all the money from the paintings go to some environmental cause I believe.
The concert was awesome and I am really glad we made it, even though we were really exhausted by the end of the day.

Spring

So I get to work and the first thing I see is an e-mail from my mother informing me that I need to post on here. I guess I just got busy and lost track of time. I went home over Easter and had a great time. It was nice and relaxing. Getting out of the city for a time gave me the break I needed. I got back here last Wednesday morning with the plan of working. Well I had gotten up at 3am to catch my flight out of Moline (which was the first of the day at 5:30) and was only able to sleep for about a half hour on my first flight. By noon I was so tired I couldn't remember what I was supposed to be working on and so by 1pm I went home and slept. That evening I went out to dinner with Corey and his folks since they were visiting. It was nice to see them. Since last week was Spring Break for DCPS I didn't see my students at all and worked in the office on Thursday and Friday. I am happy to say that I got a lot done.

Since Friday the weather here has gone from chilly end of winter to summer. Tomorrow the high is expected to reach 90! It is strange that I had to wear a jacket everywhere last week but now I am wandering around in a sundress. Sunday evening, because the weather was so great, I decided to hang out on our back patio. We had talked about building a fire pit by digging out some of the bricks so I decided to see if that was even possible. Turns out it was very simple and within 45 minutes I had pulled out the bricks and dug a hole. Last night we started out first fire and enjoyed the evening, hanging out around the fire.

Next time we will make sure to have some marshmallows!
